Jim Varney who developed one of the most endearing characters passed a way on this day in 2000. He died of lung cancer at the young age of 50.

His character of Ernest P.Worell became a household name in the 80's and through the 90's.

He did all sorts of commericals from sodas to car dealerships. His catchphrase, "knowhutImean", was a national craze. Everyone was saying it.

Varney's alter ego became so popular that Disney released four movies
featuring Ernest between 1987 and 1990.
