According to the Avalanche-Journal, Texas Tech has begun the hiring process to hire the Louisiana Tech running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

As the AJ is reporting, Juluke may still have other suitors pursuing him.

Though nothing official has been announced this makes the third Texas Tech football coaching hire this week (after Rusty Whitt and Kevin Patrick), the hiring of Juluke would put the coaching staff one coach away from being complete.

Jabbar Juluke will replace Mike Jinks as the running backs coach but he will replace Kevin Curtis as the lead recruiter in Louisiana. Juluke not only has extensive ties in the area because of his time at Louisiana Tech, but he also spent time as a high school coach in the New Orleans area biding his time as an assistant at four area schools before getting a head coaching job at Edna Karr High School.

In the nine years that Juluke was the head coach, he led his teams to seven district championships and went 80-39. In his last three years at EKHS, his teams reached the 4A State Championship game, winning one of them and capping off a 14-0 undefeated season in 2012.

Juluke, granted it was in high school, has experience winning championships.

He also won a National Championship as a defensive back with Southern University in 1993.

The coaching hires that Kingsbury and company have made all have two things in common: Championship pedigree and recruiting prowess. Specifically, recruiting prowess outside of Texas.

I'm not saying that Texas Tech is dropping Texas as a recruiting bed, but Joe Robinson has SEC ties, Kevin Patrick spent time in Florida and Juluke is from Louisiana.

You still have Eric Morris and Emmett Jones with Texas ties, along with David Gibbs and his Houston connection.

Kliff Kingsbury is building a winner, and he's showing growth and maturity with these hires as opposed to his original hires when he arrived as a fresh-faced, doe-eyed coach in 2012.
