Recently I was asked to be one of the 'toasters' at a fundraiser coming up Friday night. Having never done this, I did a little research and custom-created one. I believe the most valuable tip I can offer is to make your toast short and sweet. Some examples I've heard, "To Your Health", "To Friendship", "Here's To You!", (possibly too short). How about this one: "Through the teeth and over the gums, look out stomach, here's it comes!" (kinda crude). One of the best Irish toasts is this well-known ditty:
"May the road rise to meet you
May the wind always be at your back
May the sun shine warm on your face
May the rains fall soft on your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand"
These are all good examples, and who knows what I'll come up with. After all, they will be serving wine. Friday night's event is the second annual "A Toast to End Alzheimers" held at the Llano Estacado Winery. It starts at 7 with live music, food, silent auction and did I say, wine? Oh yes, I'll be giving the toast to the caregivers, so rather than cracking a funny one, I'm staying pretty serious with this...maybe. It'll be a fun event and I encourage you to go. If you want more information go to this site. And if you have a good toast, please share it!
