Girl Scouts Celebrate Their 99^th Birthday on March 12

This year, Girl Scout Week will be celebrated Sunday, March 6 to Saturday, March 12.  This is a great time to celebrate all the partnerships that make Girl Scouting possible. Girl Scout Birthday, March 12, commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia.

Girl Scout Sunday, March 6, and Girl Scout Sabbath, March 12, give girls an opportunity to attend their place of worship and be recognized as a Girl Scout. If a place of worship is the group sponsor, girls may perform a service, such as greeting, ushering, or doing a flag ceremony.

The Girl Scout organization is a value-based foundation.  These values guide us in creating programs that build girl leaders of courage, confidence, and character.  This means that we are working to instill in girls the values outlined in the Girl Scout Law:

friendly and helpful,

considerate and caring,

courageous and strong, and

responsible for what I say and do,
