There are several mothers and daughters who come to mind who both share the spotlight but maintain their individuality. There's legendary "Psycho" star Janet Leigh and her famous yogurt-toting daughter Jamie Lee Curtis; Elvis's main squeeze Priscilla Presley and her 'baby' Lisa Marie; the matriarch of the Carter family Mother Maybelle and several daughters including the wonderful June Carter Cash. And one cannot mention country music without talk of the Judds, Naomi and Wynonna. I believe their relationship is a success because even though they share some experiences, they live entirely separate lives.

The authors of a recent book, "Too Close for Comfort? Questioning the Intimacy of Today's New Mother-Daughter Relationship", advise mothers against trying to be a best friend to their daughter as it requires having common life experiences, i.e. having a child, marriage, etc. They say it's not common sense since you're never in the same stage of life.

But nonetheless, you have shared at least one major experience together...your birth. And the first person you lay eyes on is your sweet mom. Here's a terrific song from the Judds that's perfect for all the mothers and daughters out there. Happy Mother's Day!
