The prodigal son returns. Eric Gutierrez, former Big 12 Player of the Year and leader of the baseball revolution at Texas Tech, returns to the dugout in Lubbock as a volunteer assistant coach.

Gutierrez will return to the Red Raiders after spending three years in the Miami Marlins system.

"We are extremely excited for Gute to be joining our staff and program," Tadlock said. "His work ethic & passion for the game and this university should serve our program well. Gute is one of the more diligent workers our program has ever had and he always had a knack for seeing things on the field."

While a player at Texas Tech, Gutierrez was the starting first baseman for the entire way and was one of the most prolific Red Raiders to ever strap up the stirrups for Texas Tech. He played in 244 games, the most in school history, and holds four school records.

Gutierrez was a .300+ hitter in his career, with 36 home runs and nearly 200 runs during his stint.

"I'm so fortunate to start my career in Lubbock working alongside coach Tadlock and his amazing staff at Texas Tech," Gutierrez said. "I am beyond excited for this opportunity and I'm eager to start the season."

Texas Tech is lucky to have Eric Gutierrez back in the dugout and a part of the best program in the Big 12 that's on-route once again to another College World Series. He started the journey toward a national championship with Tim Tadlock, and it's only natural that he finishes the trip here, too.
