Texas came in 20th place on the list while Utah came in first place and apparently the deep South are generally miserable.

To find the happiest Americans, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions: 1) Emotional & Physical Well-Being, 2) Work Environment and 3) Community, Environment & Recreational Activities.

Utah was first, then came Minnesota, Hawaii, Colorado and North Dakota in fifth place.

Ok, I've lived in two of the top five, Minnesota and North Dakota.  Both have the most hellish winters in the United States. If you're happy freezing your ass off 6 months out of the year I guess that's fine.

But seriously, the economy in the Upper Midwest has been pretty good and when you grow up in subzero temps I guess you don't know any better.

It's not quite fair to judge Texas as 20th place since it's like a country on it's own. Here in West Texas, we live a similar life to that of North Dakota, minus the winter. I'd consider people here generally be VERY happy, I know we are!

Overall it's an interesting study. It seems economy and scenic views are what makes people the most happy.
