Looks like Uncle Sam is putting his hand in that box of popcorn you buy at the movies. The FDA is working on legislation that would require movie theaters to post how many calories are in those concession stand goodies. In case you are wondering , the number of calories in that large tub of butter-smothered popcorn, nearly 1500. You want a comparison? That's like eating three McDonald's Big Macs.
Of course movie theater owners are opposed to this. They don't want customers to be discouraged from buying their favorite movie snacks. One third of the total revenue at theaters comes from the concession stand.
Health officials want to see more healthier snacks like yogurt, fruit and granola bars to go along with standard fare.
But let's face it. Popcorn isn't going anywhere. Popcorn and a movie is like a classic double feature and you can't mess with that.
Where's my box of Junior Mints?
