Lubbock police continue to investigate a domestic dispute where one person allegedly mounted the hood of a car and was seriously injured after falling off of the moving vehicle.

The incident began Wednesday night before 8:45 p.m. when a man and woman got into their car to leave Furr’s Cafeteria at 60th St. and Slide Road, according to a press release from the Lubbock Police Department. A second man then got into an argument with the woman passenger and hopped onto the car’s hood attempting to keep the two from leaving.

The driver then drove westbound on 60th St. where the victim, Steven John Cano, 35, lost his grip at the intersection of 60th St. and Slide Road, becoming seriously injured in the process. Cano was transported to University Medical Center and was still listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

The report indicated the car drove off without rendering aid to Cano, but returned a short time later where the suspects cooperated with detectives and submitted themselves to questioning. The suspects were released and have not been formally charged.

Although the accident investigations unit is involved in the investigation, police said the incident is not being investigated as a traffic accident.
