Coming up this week is a tradition that draws people to Lubbock from all over the world. It's the mystique of the American cowboy with tales of the Old West that inspire the storytellers that you'll find at the National Cowboy Symposium. The Sons of San Joachin will entertain at this year's event, the 23rd annual. It all takes place in and around Lubbock Memorial Civic Center and featuring 24 chuck wagons with a chuckwagon cookoff. There will not only be food and music but stories, exhibits, horse and roping demonstrations, geared to the cowboy and open to the public. In addition, tepees will also be set up by descendants of Quanah Parker, offering the Native American side of the Old West. All events, including the Parade of the Horse, take place Thursday through Sunday. For tickets go to www.cowboy.org. This group, The Sons of the Pioneers, is being honored this year. Their sounds are synonymous with the cowboy and the American west.
