Billie Jo Spears, who had hit songs in the 70's, passed away yesterday. According the associated press, she died at her home in Vidor, Texas at the age of 73.

After high school Spears moved to Nashville and signed a contract with United Artists Records. Her songs hardly charted and two years later she moved to Capitol Records.

In 1969 Spears finally hit the Top Five with the song "Mr. Walker, It's All Over". She had a couple of more hits but twice needed surgery on her vocal cords over the next two year.

She made a full recovery and went back to United Artists Records. In 1975 Spears scored her first Number One hit with the song "Blanket On The Ground".

All though she would have more hits through the 70's, "Blanket On The Ground" would be the song she is most remembered for.

Although Spears had some success here in the United States, she had a huge following in Great Britain.
