They all were from Texas, so hence the name "Lonestar". The lead singer Richie McDonald hails from right here in Lubbock.

I remember when they first got started were making the rounds to all the radio stations. At that time, John Rich was with the group. He would later go on his own and hook up with Big Kenny for form "Big and Rich".

Richie would later be inducted into the , as it was known then, the Buddy Holly Walk Of Fame. It was an honored bestowed on those from West Texas that made it big on the national stage.

At the induction ceremony, he sat down at the piano and play a song made popular by the Maines Brothers Band called "Break the Fall". It was written by band member Jerry Brownlow, who is out production manager here at 99.5 The Bear. If you are from anywhere in Texas, you know the Maines Brothers.

But back to Lonestar. It was on this day they would score their first Number One record called "No News". It would stay on top of the charts for three weeks.
