They say cats have nine lives. But who needs nine lives when you can reach the ripe old age of 27? One cat has hit that amazing milestone.

While Tiffany Two now holds the world record for the oldest currently living cat at the age of 27, the all-time record for oldest cat is still held by Creme Puff, a fur ball from Austin who lived to be 38. Creme Puff was born August 3, 1967 and died August 6, 2005.

That is really old for a cat. Like dog years, cat years are much shorter than human years. In fact, the equivalent of 27 human years is about 125 years in cat time!

There are cat people, there are dog people and then there are people far too selfish to own a pet due to the many years long commitment.

My family and I are dog people. Having a wife who is a self-proclaimed health nut, she watches what the entire family eats -- including our three dogs, who are on a very strict diet.

Diet and exercise, she figures, has everything to do with the lifespan of a pet. And of course we want to keep our pets alive for a long time!

Depending on the dog size, the life of your canine can be anywhere from 11 to 20 years.

Here's hoping they live as long as Tiffany Two and Creme Puff!
