After my drive home yesterday with my window still cover in ice and the defrost not doing the job, I had to use a simple trick.

This isn't the most original idea in the world, we use salt on the roads, but maybe you never thought of using it on the window.

For 44 cents I got a box of basic table salt and poured it on the window.  The next morning the snow and ice came right off no problem.  The day before I sat and chipped away for 45 minutes trying to make a hole big enough to see where I can drive.

I highly recommend going through the carwash at some point to get that salt off your car though.

I guess living in the frozen tundra of North Dakota has taught me a few things about ice and snow, salt is your friend for one thing.  We also had to plug our cars in and night and carry a "Winter survival kit" in our cars in case we got stranded.  In retrospect, that sounds pretty crazy.
