Brad Paisley joined Save the Children to take a tour of a flood-ravaged school in his home state of West Virginia after the recent floods that swept the region.

The country star, Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) got together with the relief organization on Thursday (June 30) to tour the area, including a stop at Herbert Hoover High School in Clendenin, W.Va., which was hit especially hard during the historic floods last week.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the people in my home state of West Virginia,” Paisley says in a press release. “The towns and schools we’ve visited today have been devastated by these floods. I pledge to do all I can to help my fellow West Virginians and have set up a GoFundMe account so others can join me.”

Paisley is asking his fans to help raise a million dollars to go toward relief efforts in his embattled home state. For more information, visit his GoFundMe page.

“The scale of the destruction is hard to put into words, but the people of West Virginia are strong and I am confident that we will rebuild,” Senator Manchin adds. “I am grateful to Save the Children for their long-term work helping our children succeed in school and for being on the front lines today, helping vulnerable children and families in the wake of such terrible flooding.”

Save the Children's rapid response teams are providing blankets, pop-up cribs, car seats and more to families in and around the communities where the organization offers educational and health services.

“We have seen entire towns destroyed and children without basic necessities such as clothing, diapers and cribs,” says Save the Children West Virginia State Director Anna Hardaway. “We will continue to provide emergency items and do all we can to make sure that children, teachers and districts have what they need to start school in August.”

Save the Children currently partners with local schools to serve nearly 2,000 children in West Virginia. They offer a range of programs to help support mothers during pregnancy, provide home visits to families of infants and toddlers and help children get ready for school and stay healthy, all with the goal of empowering children and families in the state.
