Even though many American employees don’t use their vacation days, numerous studies have shown time off is actually good for productivity. So the owner of a Denver-based tech startup not only insists his workers take a vacation, he gives them $7,500 in travel money.

Bart Lorang, CEO of FullContact API, says that in order to attract the best talent and keep them motivated, he gives each employee thousands of dollars for dream vacations every year — but there are conditions.

“One, you actually have to take a vacation to get the money,” Lorang said. “Two, you have to disconnect from work, so that means no calls, no emails, no tweets, no work of any kind.”

He admits that he himself “sucks” at following his own rules, but his employees seem to have no trouble holding up their end of the bargain.

“It’s a real break for your brain,” said Robbie Jack, a FullContact API worker. “You come back refreshed and reinvigorated and more excited about the stuff you were working on when you left.”

If the idea of a free annual vacation sounds good, you might want to dust off your resume — Lorang says he’s hiring.
