Blake Shelton Has Learned to Accept the Gossip About Himself

Ever since his divorce from fellow country superstar Miranda Lambert and the start of his romance with pop star Gwen Stefani — and even before then, really — Blake Shelton‘s personal life has become public fodder, with his every move scrutinized and discussed on celebrity gossip sites and in the tabloids. But he’s not about to complain about it.

“You just have to accept it and go, ‘Man, people know the ins and outs, and what they don’t [know], they make up,'” Shelton recently shared with The Boot and other reporters. “You just have to accept it and know they’re going to talk about it. And that’s okay.

“I think about celebrities I know of, and I talk about them; I wonder about them. The people I read about and see in movies or whatever … I do it, too,” he admits. “It makes sense that it happens. It just is what it is.”

Not only is the “She’s Got a Way With Words” singer not going to lament his lack of privacy, but he says that he understands that it’s part of being a star.

“At the end of the day, I’m lucky to get to do what I do, and I asked for that. To get something like this, all that stuff has to happen, too,” Shelton says. “I can’t think of anybody that it’s ever happened as much to before, but I think it’s because of my television side of what I do; it just kind of brings a lot of that to the table.

“My life is crazy; I’ll be the first to tell you that. I mean, it makes sense that they’d report on me, and it has been insane. I don’t have any secrets; I don’t have one single secret. I don’t have anything,” he continues. “I walk out of my house with my head held high every day. I don’t have any land mines I have to avoid or anything. I’m not ashamed of anything.

“So the fact that they want to report on my life — dig into it. Get after it. Just have a field day,” Shelton adds. “See what you can dig up … They can’t find anything really about me, so hearing crazy stuff; that part of it is what it is. I don’t know what you can really do about it, just know that it’s a part of it.”

Shelton will, however, take action against especially egregious reports: He’s currently involved in a lawsuit versus In Touch Weekly. The country star is suing for defamation and seeking damages and an injunction.

Shelton is the subject of a new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame, Blake Shelton: Based on a True Story, that will be open through November. His latest album, If I’m Honest, is available for purchase at Amazon and iTunes.
