Black Lives Matter protests have been happening around the country and in late August, organizers plan on having their first protest in Lubbock.

A group going by the name Standing on the Side of Love/ Black Lives Matter has posted on their group page an event called "Black Lives Matter Peaceful Demonstration."

Organizers of the protest posted on Facebook that they had been in contact with the City of Lubbock and the Lubbock Police Department and that Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens had been very supportive.

The protest is currently planned for 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30. The protest will be located at the Timothy Cole Memorial on the corner of 19th and University.
