Iowa State Upsets Baker Mayfield and 3rd Ranked OU
After Iowa State beat Texas Tech last season, I didn’t think they would outdo that victory for several years. I was wrong.
Iowa State beat no. three Oklahoma in Norman today 38-31 to move their record to 3-2 and the Sooners record to 4-1.
Baker Mayfield was 24/33, 306 and two touchdowns, but was out-dueled in the second half by a quarterback making his first start for the Cyclones, Kyle Kempt. Behind Kepmt, the Cyclones outscored the Sooners 25 to 7 in the second half on their way to the huge upset.
The man of the day was Joel Lanning. The quarterback turned linebacker turned two-way player was all over the field today.
Joel Lanning's stat line for ISU:
-2/3 passing for 25 yds
-9 carries for 36 yds
-8 tackles (4 solo)

I feel like it can't be overstated how freaking bonkers it is that Joel Lanning is playing linebacker and quarterback.

This just in: Joel Lanning to also play Chief of Police upon return to Ames.

Joel Lanning is starting at linebacker today.
Now he is playing quarterback.
This is football the way God intended it.#ISUvsOU

Joel Lanning had to rush off the field after that sack to tend to the brisket he's smoking on the sideline.

The end of the game felt like karma for Baker Mayfield, who planted a flag on the Ohio State field after they beat them this season, then told a Baylor player he was going to show them who daddy was. Both of those incidents came back to bite him today.
Iowa St should run around the field with their flag and plant it on Mayfield's head

Of course the fan base in Ames, Iowa enjoyed that one but it’s also special for a Lubbock fan base that still harbours ill will toward former Red Raider Baker Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield never lost to Iowa State at Texas Tech. I think it's a sign. TTU>OU https://t.co/whCUmC7Jyy
