Man Who Made School Shooting Threat Arrested After Two New Mexico Schools Placed on Lockdown

On Wednesday, two New Mexico schools were placed on lock down after someone threatened to carry out a shooting.

At around noon, Police in Clovis, New Mexico, responded to the Gattis Middle School, located at 5100 North Thornton Street.

According to police, a school employee overheard a man become angry and threaten to commit a shooting at the school for not being provided information about his child's attendance there.

The police were called shortly after the employee reported the threat to school officials. It was later discovered that the man in question was not listed as the primary custodian of the child he was asking about.

After police were notified, Gattis Middle School was placed on a level 1 lockdown and officers stationed themselves at the school for protection of the students. The man was quickly identified as 33-year-old Carlos Anchondo. Officers were also stationed at the Clovis High School Freshman Academy, which was also placed on lockdown, due to the fact that Anchondo also had a child who attended there.

Roughly an hour after the initial lockdown, Anchondo was in handcuffs for interference with members of staff and interference with the educational process. He was located in the 700 block of Mitchell Street by members of the Clovis Police Department and the Curry County Sheriff's Office and taken into custody without incident.

According to the Clovis Police Department, Anchondo was arrested for interference with members of staff and interference with the educational process.
