A retired Fire Fighter from Nevada came up with a great way to get rid of your Christmas Tree so it's not just another fire hazard.

All you need now is a few goats.  That's right, goats will literally eat anything including the pine needles on a Christmas tree.  Apparently all the trees in the landfills and dumps were a fire hazard.  So Vince Thomas decided to expand on his business "Goat Grazers" by giving the old trees to his herd of goats. They cleaned the trees down to sticks where they were easier to dispose of or turn into a mulch and were much less of a fire hazard.

So, can goats eat and digest these pine needles?  Here's what  Thomas had to say in the story original from the Reno Gazette-Journal.

"I did a lot of research on that, and it's OK for the goats," Thomas said. "With cattle and some of the other animals, it can cause miscarriages. But for goats, it's a natural dewormer, and pine is very high in vitamin C, so it's healthy for them."

Of course, we have a similar climate in Lubbock and apparently trees don't break down and decompose so well because it's so dry, so when people throw away these trees, it's almost like throwing out plastic, they'll stay around forever, except the trees are obviously more of a fire hazard.
So, if you have goats, know somebody who does or are looking to start a new business you might want to look into this environmentally friendly way of disposing of Christmas trees.
