Anyone who is a baseball fan has heard the term "Shot Heard 'Round the World". It describes New York Giant's Bobby Thomson's home run that won the National League pennant over the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1951.

The cap that Thomson wore when he hit the homer will be auctioned off. Bernard Davies was at the game, and he ran onto the field and grabbed the cap off of Thomson's head.

Davies grandson is selling cap on behalf of the family. SCP auctions are taking bids on the cap through May 19.

This is special because at that time in baseball, players didn't wear batting helmets and it is the actual cap Thomson wore when he hit the game winning home run.

It's also a special time in Major League Baseball history because the Giants trailed the Dodgers by 13 and half games. The Giants had caught the Dodgers and they were playing a three game playoff to decide the pennant winner.

Thomson's hit was a walkoff homer and the Giants won 5 to 4, and went on to play the New York Yankees.
