On January 23, 40 people were arrested by sheriff's deputies in Midland in an epic bust of an alleged Texas cockfighting ring run by a major cocaine distributor in the area.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, the raid occurred around noon and 30 live roosters, multiple dead birds, 46 ounces of cocaine, guns and about $32,000 were recovered in the bust.

Sharpened razor blades that are tied to roosters in order to make their fights a blood bath were also discovered by police.

Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter told the Midland Reporter-Telegram that the alleged cockfighting ring was being operated by the homeowner and Midland resident Lionel Garcia (35), whose wife owns the house.

All arrested parties will face up to two years in prison on state degree felonies and could be fined as much as $10,000.
