I found an interesting blog from Movoto that talks about what happens when you leave Texas. I just moved here, so I'm going to take a different approach and address some of these.

I can tell you that most of the country thinks everyone in Texas carries a gun and rides a horse. Since being here I haven't seen much of either -- especially guns. Also, not everyone talks with an accent (except for me now). And even though there's a lot of fast food and chain restaurants, there's also a lot of health food grocery stores; it seems they're on every corner.

Bottom line is that most of the stereotypes I always here people talk about Texans are just not true.

Now, onto a few of the "31 Things No One Tells You When You Leave Texas" by blogger Kris Norton that ring true.

6. Barbecue Everywhere Else Is Just Blasphemy

Yes, this is true. I've already been told several times that Texas has the best BBQ and to not even try to mention anywhere else having good ribs. Up North, we have a place called Famous Dave's that would just not be welcome here.

7. Everyone Expects You To Wear Cowboy Boots And Hats

I've seen a few people, but no more than North Dakota actually. It's sad, but I think the rural areas of Texas have suffered much like the entire Midwest; people have moved from the farms to the cities. That doesn't mean boots and hats aren't important here, though. It's still very much part of the culture.

9. Everyone Assumes The Cowboys Are Your Football Team

I am afraid to say anything bad or even wear another team's gear even though it seems people are not as hardcore into the Cowboys as I had suspected.

15. No One Will Get It When You Say You Left Your Country To Come Here

I've said many times, even before moving here, Texas could be its own country. It literally has everything. The West and East are very different; there are deserts, swamps, beaches and mountains. The people here are amazingly friendly and helpful, too.

18. You’ll Have To Ask Restaurants If They Have Dr. Pepper

AWESOME! Yeah, I was blown away that our machine here has Diet Dr. Pepper and so does every restaurant. I love it!!

21. Other States Are So Tiny

I'm from North Dakota -- a fairly large state -- but Texas is on another level. You don't just pop down to Houston. In fact, I could almost drive home to North Dakota faster than I could to the southern tip of Texas.
