2 Major Signs That the Car You’re Buying Has Flood Damage
With recent Texas flooding, many cars on the market in six months will have been through floods. Here are two simple ways to avoid buying a flood-damaged car.
I spoke with a friend of mine, Larry Williams, who owns a car repair business in Lubbock about how to tell if a car has been flooded.
He said that after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, around 10,000 flood-damaged cars came into Texas for sale.
Telltale signs to look for are:
- Musty, mildew smells in your car.
- Dirt or silt under the carpet in your trunk.
If you have a trusted car repair place, you should probably take any car you're interested in buying there for a checkup before you make that big decision to buy it.
